Milestone for Europe’s digital sovereignty: STACKIT becomes official cloud alternative for the Dutch government

A strong signal for Europe’s digital independence: Schwarz Digits and the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security (SLM Rijk) have signed a groundbreaking framework agreement. Following an intensive review, the STACKIT Public Cloud is now officially approved for use by Dutch government agencies.

This solidifies STACKIT’s position as the new standard for the public sector in Europe. Following the EU Commission, the Dutch government is now another key institution relying on STACKIT’s sovereign infrastructure.

Why STACKIT? Verified security and full control

SLM Rijk’s decision is based on the need to manage sensitive government data in accordance with the strictest European data protection standards. STACKIT offers the right solution: a genuine, sovereign alternative to non-European cloud providers.

Key points of the agreement at a glance:

  • Seamless compliance (DPIA): A comprehensive Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) officially confirms that STACKIT fully meets the high requirements for the protection of government data.
  • Physical data sovereignty: STACKIT guarantees a legally compliant solution in which data is stored exclusively within the EU—securely protected from access by third countries.
  • “Partner First” Approach: Maximum flexibility for public administration. Dutch authorities can access STACKIT services either directly or through their established local IT service providers. Existing partnerships can thus be seamlessly continued.

A New Era for European Administration

This double success—approval by the European Commission and now by the Dutch government—underscores STACKIT’s role as a leading force for digital sovereignty on the continent. STACKIT offers not only technological excellence but also the assurance that data remains in European hands.

We look forward to supporting the digital transformation of the Dutch government as a trusted partner and working together to shape an independent digital Europe.
